What do we love?
Ukrainians are known for their resilience and strong sense of community, especially evident in times of adversity. They have always strived to preserve traditions, languages and customs to hold onto their cultural identity.
What are the challenges?
Children in Ukraine are facing unimaginable challenges, even more than normal, as the conflict continues. Millions of children have been displaced, many are living as refugees in neighbouring countries, and many have lost their lives. Many schools have been damaged or destroyed, or repurposed as shelters. Many children have lost access to medical care and food as well as their education, and most have experienced trauma that will need the best care to recover from.
What are our partners doing?
Ukraine is home to the Light School, which, with CRY’s support, continues to run in the face of the war, supporting education of Ukrainian families. It reaches both those who have remained local, and those who have fled for hopes of greater safety. They provide free school meals to children in need, and provide shelter from the war several times a week. They are seeing children rehabilitate and speed towards their full potential, even in the midst of war, with some achieving the highest of grades.
