What we love?

Serbia is picturesque in its landscapes and historical in its landmarks, with culture and diversity attracting international visitors for festivals of many kinds. The sense of community and strong family ties are deeply ingrained in Serbian culture, making it a place where social bonds are highly valued.

What are the challenges?

Serbia suffers from persistently high poverty rates; over a fifth of people living in Serbia live in poverty, almost a third are at risk of poverty, and almost half of children living in rural areas are living in absolute poverty. The majority of the Romany population do not have access to clean water and some do not complete primary education.

What are our partners doing?

CRY supports the Children’s Oasis in Prokuplje in the South of Serbia, who provide education, hygiene teaching and nutritious food to 150 children from a Romany background. They travel around rural villages and settlements to provide for these children and their families. They have 15 children in their pre-school program, giving the children the best start possible in life.
