What do we love?
Myanmar champions diversity, which we love. It is home to over 135 distinct ethnic groups, each with its own unique culture, language and traditions. Though there are historical tensions, there is such potential for unity amidst its diversity. Numerous festivals are celebrated in Myanmar throughout the year where people can come together as one.
What are the challenges?
Myanmar is a country that has been scarred by one of the world's longest running civil wars. Over a million children are born each year; many of whom will not reach their first birthday. Furthermore, 43,000 will be orphaned to HIV/AIDS. It isn't just orphaned children who are at risk - poverty, illness and addiction mean that many parents are unable to provide adequate care for their children. These vulnerable children are at great risk of exploitation, child labour and trafficking.
What are our partners doing?
CRY partners with the Hosanna Children’s Home in Myanmar, whose heart dedication is to provide discipleship, education and nutrition to orphans and poor children. Every child at Hosanna goes to school regularly, an opportunity they would not have had otherwise, and are learning skills that will help them reach their full potential in life. The children who live there are surrounded by love and care and are well fed; a striking difference than what they would have faced before being welcomed ‘home’.
What can you do?
