What do we love?
Haiti has a profound historical legacy as the first black republic to gain independence and the only nation in history to be established through a successful slave revolt. This history imbues Haitian culture with a deep sense of pride, resilience, and identity, influencing all aspects of its cultural expression. We love the strength this shows.
What are the challenges?
Children in Haiti are facing many challenges. There is widespread poverty and hunger, meaning many children are living without sufficient food, clothing and shelter. Healthcare facilities, if they are nearby, are often inadequate, underfunded, and inaccessible – a large range of common diseases mean this causes quite the problem. Around our partners, local risks have made it difficult for places of help to stay open, and hospitals have closed because of the surrounding violence.
What are our partners doing?
Our partners run Hope House in Haiti, a school where most of the children that attend live in desperate poverty. They are the only free school in Haiti, and despite local risks, the school has remained open. Orphans are taken in and at least 100 children are fed breakfast daily to ensure they can thrive and do well in school, helping them on their way to reaching their full potential. They are transforming stories by ensuring a healthy diet and a good start in life.
