Known By Name | Christmas 2024

One of the former US presidents famously said:

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”

What a challenge it is for us to embrace such a perspective when we live in a society so consumed by materialism, individualism, and even hatred. Yet, this year, let us once again be reminded that Christmas is far more than just an event; it is also a mindset and a heart attitude. It calls us to live our lives in service to others, especially those who are marginalised and forgotten. After all, isn’t this the true message of the nativity story and the Gospel?

Many renowned charitable organisations have described 2024 as one of the worst years for children across the globe, citing natural disasters, wars, climate change, and ongoing injustices. Amidst all this suffering, there is often a category of children who are even more marginalised and forgotten - those with additional needs. Around the world, children with disabilities face stigma, persecution, and even death.

At CRY, we believe that God has created everyone equal and in His image. We affirm that children with additional needs are not mistakes but precious gifts from God whom we are called to embrace, love, and learn from.

We are proud to support the work of two incredible projects serving youth with additional needs in Liberia and Afghanistan. To continue effectively supporting some of these children in 2025, we need to raise at least £15,000 this Christmas. This year’s appeal is dedicated to that cause, and all donations will go directly towards meeting this need, helping children like Erica, as seen in our Christmas film this year (see: www.cry.org.uk/christmas). Any funds raised over that amount will be used for the same projects the following year.

We have heard that 'to be plenteous in mercy is to have the real spirit of Christmas’. I pray and trust that your generosity will align with this philosophy. Thank you in advance for your kindness, and may you have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas.
